More Than a Game

Resource Tony Carletello July 13, 2026

A few years ago, if someone had told me I’d become passionate about pickleball, I probably would have laughed.

Like many people, I assumed it was a slower sport that wasn’t particularly challenging. Then I picked up a paddle.

Today, you’ll often find me on the courts at Pickleball Kingdom competing, learning, and trying to improve my game. Along the way, I’ve discovered that pickleball is about much more than exercise. It’s about friendships, community, and continuing to challenge yourself no matter your age.

And judging by the number of new courts and players popping up across Middle Tennessee, I’m not the only one.

Why Is Pickleball Growing So Fast?

Pickleball has become the fastest-growing sport in America for a reason.

It’s easy to learn, affordable to play, and welcoming to people of all ages and skill levels. Most beginners can start having fun almost immediately, while more experienced players quickly discover there’s plenty of strategy and skill involved.

The game combines elements of tennis, ping pong, and badminton, creating a sport that’s accessible to beginners but challenging enough to keep players coming back.

Great Exercise Without Feeling Like Work

One of the things I enjoy most about pickleball is that it’s a fantastic workout disguised as fun.

A typical session improves:

·       Agility

·       Hand-eye coordination

·       Balance

·       Cardiovascular fitness

·       Reaction time

Whether you’re looking for serious competition or simply a way to stay active, pickleball offers something for everyone.

The Community Factor

While the exercise is great, the people are what keep many players coming back.

I’ve met business owners, teachers, retirees, healthcare professionals, young families, and fellow competitors on the court. Many of those introductions have turned into genuine friendships.

In a world where so much communication happens through screens, pickleball creates opportunities for real conversations and real connections.

That’s one of the reasons I think it fits so well with life in Middle Tennessee.

A Few Lessons I’ve Learned

The longer I play, the more I realize pickleball isn’t just a game.

It’s taught me to stay humble, keep learning, and enjoy the process. No matter your skill level, there’s always another shot to improve, another strategy to learn, and another challenge waiting for you.

Most importantly, it’s a reminder that some of life’s best experiences happen when we step outside our comfort zones and connect with others.

Final Thoughts

As much as I enjoy helping people buy and sell homes, I’ve always believed that the best part of any community isn’t the houses.

It’s the people.

Pickleball has given me another way to experience that firsthand.

So if you’ve been thinking about trying it, consider this your sign. Grab a paddle, find a local court, and give it a shot.

You might discover more than a new hobby. You might discover a new community.

Built on Relationships. Rooted in Community.
